Assuring Quality from breeding to finishing.

What we do

Our commitment to quality and compassion begins well before the breeding process. Our team members are experts in each phase of the production process, helping to ensure healthy, well cared for pigs. Pillen Family Farms has farms that support: genetics, breeding-gestation, farrowing, nursery and grow-finish. See our Animal Welfare practices to learn more.

What we do

Breeding Stock Arrives
1. PREGNANCY

Our female pigs are pregnant for 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days. While pregnant, the moms are individually taken care of daily.

Pregnant Moms Move to Labor and Delivery
2. LABOR AND DELIVERY

When it’s time for farrowing, or giving birth, each mom is taken to the labor and delivery room. This special setting is quiet and equipped with everything she needs for a safe, healthy birth experience. Every new pig is picked up, dried off and placed near the mother to allow for colostrum intake.

Weaned Piglets
3. NURSERY

Once the babies are 19 days old they’re weaned off of their mother’s milk and moved to our nursery where they’re introduced to feed. They stay here for 6 weeks.

4. FINISHING

After 6 weeks at the nursery, our pigs are moved to a finisher where they will be fed and cared for until they reach approximately 285 lbs.

5. PROCESSED

…to make the best hams, bacon, loins, and chops around.
